In
addition to funding for projects, Wakeland also receives funds from four banks,
foundations and one city. These funds provide Wakeland with support in a variety of ways—core operating, resident service programs, and other general organizational support. Bank Foundation
California Consumer Protection Foundation Bank Foundation We are fortunate to have a
wonderful relationship with lending institutions committed to their non-profit
clients. We have received funding
for organizational infrastructure and to fund resident services at developments
currently online. Participating
banks include Bank of America, Washington
Mutual, CalFed, Wells Fargo, Union Bank of
California, and US Bank. California Consumer Protection Foundation Through the community collaborative fund, projects were
granted monies to promote and enhance the use of telecommunications.
As a result, the learning center at Vista Terrace Hills offers computer
training, which provides secondary benefits such as increased employability.
The center also promotes language access through software programs and
development of Internet and keyboarding skills. City of Poway In an effort to expand Wakeland's
participation in the development of affordable housing in the City of Poway, the
City allocated a capacity building grant that has enabled Wakeland to increase
staff and strengthen Wakeland's infrastructure. Along with developing our
resident services program, do strategic planning, and effectively position
Wakeland to work with the City on future projects. HUD Grant New Approach is a highly acclaimed
community based grant aimed at eliminating drugs.
This grant has led to increased relationships with area police
departments in addition to the development of HUD Neighborhood Networks.
HUD Neighborhood Networks is a community-based program that works toward
bringing technology to affordable housing sites.
Several of Wakeland's learning centers are HUD Neighborhood Networks. They are: Vista Terrace Hills, Coronado Terrace, Canyon Rim and The Stratton. |
Service Funding A major component in Wakeland's affordable housing development goes beyond financing and building and is found in our Resident Services Program that provides services for residents living in our projects. Services are designed to reflect the needs of each project and community but are based around After-School Programs, Education and Job Training. Funding to implement resident services is made possible by grants from bank foundations, general foundations, the City of Poway and a Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Grant.
