Community leaders including City of Chula Vista Mayor, Cheryl Cox attended the grand opening event for the project. Representatives of Global Green USA, U.S. Green Building Council, and San Diego Gas & Electric were also present to speak to the green features included in the project. Wakeland was the recipient of the SDG&E Sustainable Communities Champion award.

Located at 1501 Broadway, Los Vecinos is comprised of 12 one-bedroom, 15 two-bedroom apartments and 15 three-bedroom units. All of the units are rented to families earning 60% or less area median income.
