High Tech Comes to Vista Terrace Hills

December, 2002 ¿ Residents of Vista Terrace Hills apartments can now learn the marketable skills of graphic arts through hands-on experience, thanks to a grant from the California Consumer Protection Foundation which provided multi-media equipment in the community room.

Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation was awarded the $30,000 grant from to set up a Neighborhood Networks computer lab and improve the computer skills of the apartment residents for Vista Terrace Hills.  Many of the young adults residing at Vista Terrace wanted to go beyond the basics and learn about the field of multi-media design.  Wakeland was able to purchase a digital camera and accompanying software as well as equipment to teach digital imaging and web page design.

Program participants, with the help of the instructor, took images of their apartments and community and learned to view them from a new, creative perspective.  The resident students are now working on their own Vista Terrace Hills web page that will include local information and notices of local educational opportunities.
