The Organization

"The Wakeland Board is comprised of successful business people and experts in the affordable housing arena, all of whom see 'Wakeland as a way to address the affordable housing crisis, while making a difference in the lives of our residents through services.' We are also fortunate to have assembled a quality staff with extensive experience at developing and implementing successful affordable housing developments."

Ken Sauder, President

Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation was founded in 1999 and has since emerged as an affordable housing leader in San Diego and Southern California.  With its for-profit and non-profit partners, Wakeland has developed over 3,500 units of affordable housing and is actively engaged in creating service programs with resident involvement.

Wakeland is a nonprofit (501(c)3) corporation that develops, acquires and rehabs quality affordable housing. We work with a variety of municipalities, developers and redevelopment agencies throughout California.  Wakeland currently has projects in San Diego and Orange County and has plans for several projects in the near future.

Wakeland's Board of Directors is comprised of affordable housing, community, and business leaders. Wakeland's emergence as a player in the affordable housing arena is due in large part to a highly qualified staff and well-rounded Board of Directors.

Wakeland was founded by individuals who were concerned about the lack of affordable housing.  The high cost of housing for most working families was a major barrier in the effort to move out of poverty.

Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation has an impressive track record of meeting the critical need of affordable housing.  Wakeland utilizes federal, state and local funding resources including tax exempt bonds, tax credits and leveraging other funds from the private and public sector.  Wakeland was formed to develop affordable housing and provide service programs, which together offer a unique opportunity for families and individuals to obtain success.
