Job Search Assistance Through
the learning centers, Wakeland housing residents receive job-search assistance,
including resume writing, interviewing and job-search resources.
Workshops are conducted periodically throughout the year. Professional Skills Development Residents improve and develop language skills through English as a Second Language (ESL) courses in the learning centers. These courses are also offered on-line. Computer courses teach computer basics and Internet access and use. These classes offer first-time computer users with an introduction to technology and keyboarding skills. After School Wakeland' after-school programs
consist of supervised help with homework, arts and crafts and fun youth
activities. Through outside
partnerships, providers assist in the implementation of these programs.
The goals: to improve academic performance, build character, increase
community involvement and provide extended support to families. Sports Wakeland offers a wide variety of seasonal sports for youth (boys and girls) ages 13-17 throughout the year. They provide character- and team-building skills and are a positive alternative to drugs and gangs.

"The first defense against delinquency, gangs and drugs is keeping young people active and their minds engaged." Child Psychologist "Things are so much better. I have better grades since the center open because I can do my homework. I like helping the community and playing around with my friends." Chris
(youth) "We give families a chance to live in a quality home they can afford and the tools they need to improve their lives. Our success is measured by the long term quality of life that we provide our tenants." Ken
