
Adult residents have a myriad of skill-enhancement
resources and social activities available to them.
Open Computer
Lab and Computer Basics Classes
The computer
lab is available throughout the week for resident
use. Each computer station has Internet
access and software that supports the basic word
processing needs of residents. Staff is generally
available to answer basic questions and provide one-on-one
support.
Staff provides instruction in basic
computer skills including Word and
Internet search that can increase computer literacy
skills needed for school, employment or personal growth. These
classes also offer first-time computer users an introduction
to technology and keyboarding skills.
Job Readiness
Workshops
Workshops are offered to support
residents in job search and job skill development. Topics
may include:
- Writing a letter of introduction
- Writing a winning resume
- How to keep a job
- Interviewing techniques
Language Skill Development
Residents improve and develop language
skills through English as a Second Language (ESL) courses
in the learning centers. These courses are also offered
on-line.
Community Events
Community events
occur throughout the year as a way for residents to
meet each other and learn about new programs offered
by Resident Services. Events
may include: weekly Bingo, monthly potlucks,
seasonal parties, health fairs, movie nights and ice
cream socials.
