Needs are Met in a New Chapter of Life

Walking into Poinsettia Mobile Home Park for the first time, Lauralee Maudlin knew it was the place for her.  Recently widowed, Lauralee needed to find an affordable home in an environment that offered support and independence after the sudden passing of her husband.

Since 2005, Lauralee has settled into what she calls “this new page in my life”.  She is learning to live on her own which she likens to “using a pair of scissors with only one part of the handle,” without her late husband.

It is new for her to handle bills and finances but says, “It is really great for me to only have to worry about one bill.  To have my utilities and trash included in one lump sum with my rent, makes it much easier for me to handle.”  At $750 a month, the affordability has also helped in recouping her financial situation after her husband’s passing.

Not only has Lauralee found comfort in the affordability of her residence, but also in the social network strengthened in the park by Resident Services Programming.  When new to the community, Lauralee developed friendships with four other women at the monthly potlucks.  She has been impressed by and experienced the benefit of outreach from other residents, through the Neighborhood Watch program, checking in on those living alone.

The design and care of the park, the quiet nights and safe streets, as well as an efficient staff have created the perfect setting for the story told in this new chapter.
