KEN SAUDER

Ken Sauder is Wakeland’s founding CEO and began his tenure at the organization in 1999. Under his leadership and assisted by a strong staff and solid Board of Directors, the organization has developed more than 7,500 affordable homes in 53 developments throughout California, including 300 units of supportive housing designed for people who have experienced homelessness.
Mr. Sauder has more than 40 years of affordable housing experience at the national, international and local level. Throughout his career, he has developed strong relationships with business leaders, elected officials, affordable housing decision-makers and administrators of funding sources to create affordable housing. Due to his dedicated efforts, Mr. Sauder has been awarded numerous accolades, including the San Diego Housing Federation’s Housing Champion honor. His expertise has made him a sought-after speaker and resource, leading to his participation in numerous industry panels, as well as various research efforts on the topic of housing affordability. Mr. Sauder previously held a variety of positions in affordable housing development. He served as the founding director of the Latin American Program for Habitat for Humanity International and the first director of Tijuana-San Diego Habitat for Humanity. Mr. Sauder holds a Master’s degree in City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania and currently serves on the Boards of the San Diego Building Industry Association, the Downtown San Diego Partnership and the California Housing Consortium. |
