Wakeland Housing has been a leader in the creation and operation of affordable housing throughout California for three decades.
OUR STORY
Founded in 1998, Wakeland Housing is a nonprofit organization committed to transforming lives and communities through the development of high-quality, affordable housing and the delivery of impactful resident services. We address the housing needs of California’s low-income working families, seniors, veterans, and individuals exiting homelessness. Our mission goes beyond providing shelter—we create thriving communities where residents can find stability, support, and opportunities to succeed.

Over the years, Wakeland has developed, acquired, and rehabilitated nearly 9,500 affordable homes across 70+ properties throughout California. By collaborating with both for-profit and nonprofit partners, we have become a leader in the affordable housing sector. We remain dedicated to providing cost-efficient, high-quality housing and integrating comprehensive on-site services that enhance the well-being of our residents.

We work with municipalities, developers, and redevelopment agencies across the state, leveraging federal, state, and local funding, including tax-exempt bonds and tax credits, as well as private sector resources to create lasting impact in the communities we serve. Through our work, we strive to ensure that our housing communities are places where people don't just live, but thrive.
