A Bit About Peter
Peter Armstrong has three decades of experience in the field of community development and affordable housing. As Wakeland’s Vice President of Real Estate Development, he oversees all aspects of financing and construction of low-income rental housing developments. Mr. Armstrong also manages relationships and projects with other nonprofit partners, such as churches, social service organizations, and philanthropies.
At Wakeland, Peter has managed the development of over 20 affordable communities, secured over $1.25 billion in financing, and completed increasing sophisticated and mission-oriented projects. Under Mr. Armstrong’s leadership, Wakeland has an active pipeline of new projects and on average completes four communities per year.
Recognized by affordable housing professionals for his expertise in financing, Mr. Armstrong is also a frequent speaker at industry conferences and trainings such as the San Diego Housing Federation's Affordable Housing Institute and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation's Housing Development Training Institute. His commitment to affordable housing in San Diego has also earned him the recognition of his peers as the recipient of the John Craven Public Service Memorial Award.
Mr. Armstrong received a Master of Planning degree from the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Arts from Pomona College. He also holds a number of professional certifications, including certified planner (AICP), LEED Green Associate and HOME Certified Specialist in Rental Housing Compliance.
