Barry J. Schultz brings over 25 years of combined legal, planning and community development experience to his law practice. He currently serves as City Attorney for the City of National City. Prior to his appointment as City Attorney he was a partner with Devaney Pate Morris and Cameron, LLP. His practice focused on real estate, land use, community development, affordable housing, infill development and sustainable community development. He served as assistant city attorney for the cities of Murrieta and Del Mar providing legal advice on real estate, land use and public law matters. He was also legal counsel for the redevelopment oversight boards for the City of Compton and Desert Hot Springs.
In addition to his public entity advisory work, he has over 15 years of experience representing private for-profit and non-profit clients in obtaining land use entitlements, real estate development and financing, public/private partnerships, and affordable housing development. He provides strategic counseling to clients on corporate structuring/governance, social enterprises and sustainable community development.
He served as the chief executive officer for the San Diego Capital Collaborative, a community investment corporation and advisor to the San Diego Smart Growth Fund, a $90 million real estate equity fund targeting workforce housing and mixed-use development in San Diego urban communities. He was responsible for capital raising, investor relations, and the development and implementation of the fund's socially responsible investment strategy.
He is active in community service and serves on the boards of the McAlister Institute, California Southern Small Business Development Corporation and the Carmel Valley Planning Board.
