David Hetherington
Vice President of Business Development
David Hetherington is a seasoned affordable housing professional who brings skills in all aspects of development, entitlements, community engagement, and financing to his work with Wakeland. In his role as Vice President of Business Development, he is focused on generating new supportive and affordable housing projects while also managing select projects from inception through completion.
Mr. Hetherington began working at Wakeland in 2008 and has served in various management roles developing hundreds of supportive and affordable units over the last 15 years. He spent a year as Senior Project Manager for a permanent supportive housing developer in Los Angeles. While in Los Angeles, Mr. Hetherington developed supportive housing and a Federally Qualified Health Center with financing from L.A. County Development Authority, New Markets Tax Credits, L.A. County Department of Health Services, Los Angeles Housing Department, Multifamily Housing Program, tax exempt bonds, and the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities program.
Mr. Hetherington earned a bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies and Planning from the University of California, San Diego and is a graduate of LISC’s Housing Development Training Institute and Advanced Tax Credit and Bond Financing training.
He has been an active volunteer in the community development field for organizations such as San Diego Youth and Community Services, Habitat for Humanity, Friends of the Poor and ACCION International. In his spare time, Mr. Hetherington is an avid traveler and ocean swimmer.
