Director of Development
Julie Hattler is a seasoned professional with 30 years of experience in real estate accounting and finance. She has spent more than a decade in the affordable housing sector, where she served in both management and executive-level finance positions. During that time she developed extensive skill in due diligence, negotiation and loan closings of complex affordable housing developments, including Ten Fifty B, a 23-story, 229-unit high rise that is the San Diego region’s tallest affordable housing project to date.
Ms. Hattler transitioned to the development arm of affordable housing in 2019, joining Wakeland as a Project Manager, then being promoted to Senior Project Manager in 2020 and Director of Development in 2021. In her current role, she oversees the process and staff for development of a wide range of Wakeland projects from the earliest stages of feasibility to lease-up and completion.
Previously, Ms. Hattler spent more than five years with Affirmed Housing Group, moving up to Chief Financial Officer shortly after her initial hiring as Controller. She also served as CFO for a start-up affordable housing developer, which included setting up all accounting systems and controls for the company. In these positions, she gained further expertise in project underwriting and feasibility, project management and lender negotiations and reporting.
Ms. Hattler’s professional development includes numerous trainings and seminars in Low Income Housing Tax Credit financing, including 4% and 9% tax credits and bonds.
