2012 SDHF Ruby Award Winners!
June 18, 2012
Wakeland had a great night at last week's San Diego Housing Federation Ruby Awards!
First, congratulations to Wakeland's Vista Grande project - winner of the San Diego Housing Federation's Ruby Award for Rehabilitation Project of the Year.
This 49 unit project in the Valencia Park neighborhood of Southeastern San Diego exemplifies Wakeland's team approach - bringing together development, property management, and resident services to transform a run-down "problem" property into a beautifully renovated, well-managed community. In addition to newly remodeled homes, residents have access to a wide variety of opportunities at the new community center, including after-school programs, financial education seminars, and employment services.
Congratulations also to the Multi-Cultural Contractors Group (MCCG) for their Outstanding Development Partner award, given to them for their great work on Vista Grande.
Working closely with our General Contractor, Portrait Homes, MCCG designed and implemented programs to ensure that the Vista Grande project utilized local contractors and vendors to the greatest extent possible. With MCCG's assistance, the project was able to utilize local roofing, landscaping, concrete and masonry, painting, and security businesses. Additionally, MCCG provided other on-site construction trades with connections and resources to facilitate the hiring of local employees.
Big thanks to all who made this project a reality, including the San Diego Housing Commission, the Southeastern Economic Development Corporation, and Union Bank. And, to the San Diego Housing Federationfor honoring Wakeland and MCCG with these awards.
