San Diego - Even a worldwide pandemic can't slow down the busy team at Wakeland! While working safely from home, our staff has kept the pipeline going for new housing, while ensuring that our current properties are running smoothly and residents are getting the support they need.
Construction Starts on Two New Properties
Just a few weeks ago, we closed financing on two developments in San Diego that will create 126 homes for chronically-ill seniors who've experienced homelessness.
One is Trinity Place, a community of 74 affordable homes now under construction in the Grantville area of San Diego. And over in the Clairemont neighborhood, The Ivy Senior Apartments will create 52 new homes located close to shops, transit and other community resources.
Residents at both these communities will receive healthcare, case management and other supportive services from our partners at St. Paul's PACE and PATH (People Assisting the Homeless).
Resident Services Adapting To 'New Normal'
Meanwhile, Wakeland's Resident Services staff has been innovating new ways to help our current residents while following safe social distancing protocols. They've been trained in "remote resident services," working by phone and email to connect residents with COVID-19-related benefit programs, income supports and computer resources for those who don't have internet access.
Our employees are also making sure more than 200 of our most vulnerable households have groceries, snacks and other household essentials delivered to their doors every week. They've been assisted in this by contributions from The San Diego Food Bank, The Allgire Foundation and Girl Scout Troop 4899.
