Lofts on Landis Opens in Chula Vista, CAMarch 18, 2016
CHULA VISTA, Calif. - The City of Chula Vista now has 33 new affordable homes in the heart of downtown thanks to Wakeland and the Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD). The two organizations have partnered to develop Lofts on Landis, a unique mixed-use community that is the first in the city to combine affordable housing with healthcare offices. Mayor Mary Salas and other city officials recently joined the leadership and staff from Wakeland and FHCSD to celebrate the grand opening of the new development, which is located across the street from the Chula Vista Family Health Center. "Family Health Centers of San Diego prides itself on providing whole-person care to communities across San Diego County. This includes increasing access to comprehensive, high-quality, affordable health care services, as well as supporting efforts to create safe, secure housing for individuals and their families," said FHCSD CEO Fran Butler-Cohen. "The conversion of our unused, vacant lot into affordable housing is a perfect combination of these two ideals. We are grateful to our partners, Wakeland Housing and the City of Chula Vista, for their shared vision on this project." In coordination with Wakeland's onsite Resident Services program, staff from FHCSD will be leading health and nutrition workshops at Lofts on Landis, giving residents the tools they need to lead a healthier lifestyle. "We've already heard from families at Lofts on Landis how living here has given them a fresh start and a healthy environment to raise their kids," said Wakeland's CEO Ken Sauder. "We can't underestimate the positive change that projects like this make in people's lives." |
