Wakeland Begins Framing Los Vecinos ApartmentsJune 1, 2009
The foundation is in place at the site of Los Vecinos Apartments in South West Chula Vista, one of Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation’s newest developments. Los Vecinos will provide 42 units of environmentally friendly housing for families and individuals earning between 30% and 60% of Annual Median Income. The walls for this “green” affordable housing development started going up in early July. Framing of the building is one aspect of the project that uses environmentally sound practices. The wood products used in the project are certified, salvaged, and engineered as environmentally friendly. Furthermore, the wood ordered for the framing will be used as efficiently as possible creating less than 10% waste factor. Los Vecinos is currently seeking platinum level LEED certification as a green building. The certification process takes many factors such as the wood use into consideration. Once approved, Los Vecinos will be the first multi-family affordable housing development to receive platinum level certification. |
