Wakeland's Residents Celebrate Savings SuccessFebruary 15, 2017
SAN DIEGO - Nineteen residents from Wakeland’s properties in San Diego have earned “super saver” status after completing a new 10-month bank savings match program offered through our Creating Opportunities for Resident Enrichment (CORE) program. Participants who achieved their goal of putting away either $25 or $50 per month were rewarded with an equal match provided by U.S. Bank – bringing their total nest egg to either $500 or $1000, depending on their savings level. The program’s goal is to help residents establish long-term savings habits and improve financial literacy. To that end, participants attended a series of financial workshops and CORE program staff worked with residents to identify beneficial uses for their savings – including education, an emergency fund or transportation. Wakeland recently honored the 19 program “graduates” with a ceremony and potluck dinner at our Los Vecinos property in Chula Vista. Wakeland staff and partners from U.S. Bank attended, presenting residents with special certificates celebrating their program completion. |
