Wakeland’s Resident Services Staff Closes out a Successful Summer
August 30, 2013
As the summer months come to a close, thoughts turn from sun and fun to the busy days ahead as school starts and the holiday season approaches.
But before the coals are lit for the final summer BBQ, we'd like to reflect on the many activities Wakeland’s residents enjoyed as part of special summer programs conducted by our Resident Services team. At all of our affordable housing communities, residents benefit from fun program additions offered during the warm weather months, including:
· SUMMER CAMPS: More than 100 of Wakeland’s youngest residents attended a free summer camp offered in partnership with Another Choice Another Chance (ACAC) in the Sacramento area. Kids experienced full days of games, crafts and activities designed around ACAC’s mission of teaching youth how to make positive choices that help them avoid substance abuse and violence. The camp ended with a field trip to Folsom Lake, where the kids enjoyed swimming, relay races and a picnic complete with hot dogs, watermelon and s’mores.
· FIELD TRIPS: Kids from seven of Wakeland’s communities in San Diego County earned a full day of waterslide fun at the Aquatica water park by participating in a summertime points program. Each child built up points by volunteering, completing academic activities and participating in fundraisers, with the top eight earners at each property winning a spot on the trip.
Other Wakeland communities helped residents beat the heat with pool days, trips to museums and outings with local Boys and Girls Clubs.
· AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR MORE: In September, adults who participate in Wakeland’s Creating Opportunities for Resident Enrichment (CORE) program will get to see the sights and sounds of Old Town San Diego on a special day trip. Stops include the Wells Fargo History Museum and the Mason Street School – San Diego’s first public schoolhouse.
Resident services such as these are a key part of Wakeland’s efforts to create successful affordable housing developments that enhance our residents’ lives and build strong communities. That is why we offer these types of programs at all of our 34 housing communities throughout California. For more information on Wakeland’s Resident Services, click here.
