La Sabila Grand Opening

We were thrilled to celebrate the grand opening of La Sabila Apartments — a powerful step forward for seniors in North County. 🎉

This new 55+ affordable housing community provides 85 homes designed for stability, connection, and independence, including apartments dedicated to seniors exiting homelessness and supportive onsite services provided by Gary and Mary West PACE that help residents age in place and truly thrive.

We were honored to mark the occasion alongside community leaders and partners 🤝:

William Spencer, Regional Administrator, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD); Supervisor Jim Desmond, County of San Diego; David Estrella, Director of Housing & Community Development Services, County of San Diego; Christian von Merkatz, Director of Community Lending & Investment, Wells Fargo; and a special appearance from Mayor John Franklin, City of Vista.

A proud moment as well for the Wakeland team — Rebecca Louie, President & CEO, and John Sugden, Project Manager — whose dedication helped turn vision into reality. Job well done to everyone involved in bringing this community home.

Deep gratitude to our funding partners — County of San Diego, Wells Fargo, Freddie Mac, and the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee — for investing in housing stability for older adults.

And special thanks to DAHLIN Architecture | Planning | Interiors and Sun Country Builders for their craftsmanship and collaboration in making this beautiful community possible.

Welcome home, La Sabila 🧡
