Serenade on 43rd’ Wins Affordable Housing 'Project of the Year - Rehab' Award

We’re proud to share that Serenade on 43rd has been recognized as the 'Project of the Year' in the Rehabilitation category at the 2026 Ruby Awards presented by the San Diego Housing Federation! Wakeland's team is honored to be recognized alongside so many inspiring organizations working to create affordable communities across our region.

In collaboration with co-developer Housing Innovation Partners (HIP), whose early vision helped spark Serenade on 43rd, the project thoughtfully combined the rehabilitation of 20 existing affordable homes with 45 new construction units to create a welcoming, mid-century-inspired complex in San Diego's City Heights neighborhood.

Designed by Dahlin Group Architecture and built by Sun Country Builders, the end result has 65 affordable apartment homes — including supportive housing for individuals exiting homelessness — in a renewed community where residents can find stability and opportunity to achieve their personal and professional goals.

The Serenade project and this recognition reflect a shared commitment to preserving and expanding high-quality affordable and supportive housing that creates lasting impact for residents and the surrounding community.

This commitment is exemplified by our project funders:
