Wakeland welcomed a team of Wells Fargo volunteers to Village Green in San Diego -- coming together to celebrate a generous grant that will help rebuild the community’s swimming pool. This effort is part of Wells Fargo’s #WelcomeHome nationwide initiative to support affordable housing and strengthen neighborhoods.
Village Green is home to 278 residents (including 116 children) across 94 affordable apartments. For years, the pool was the heart of the community: a place where kids learned to swim, families relaxed and neighbors built lasting friendships. When equipment damage forced it to close, residents lost more than a pool -- they lost a gathering space that nurtured connection and wellbeing.
Wells Fargo’s funding will help bring the pool back to life, creating a vital space for health, healing, and joy. The gift is especially meaningful for Village Green residents, who endured devastating floods in 2024 which temporarily displaced 57 households and added immense stress to families with already limited resources. Restoring the pool is more than a project -- it’s a step toward normalcy and resilience.
Wakeland extends heartfelt thanks to the Wells Fargo volunteers who showed up for our residents along with San Diego City Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera, J.D. and community partners YMCA of San Diego County and SAY San Diego (Social Advocates for Youth), who joined us to share their programs and resources. Together, we are all helping Village Green build back stronger.
