SAN DIEGO - Our team is growing! Due to an increase in Wakeland's development pipeline in Los Angeles, we've brought on Veronica Zimmerman Garcia, an accomplished affordable housing professional who has led the development of 454 affordable homes for families, farmworkers and people with special needs since 2009.
As our newest Project Manager, Veronica is already hard at work on four new supportive housing communities that are in the predevelopment phase in the Los Angeles area.
"Veronica deeply understands the affordable housing landscape in the Los Angeles area and has an unmatched talent for finding new resources and connections to aid our work in this region," said Wakeland President and CEO Ken Sauder. "Wakeland is fortunate to have her on our team during this crucial time of growth."
Wakeland is also happy to welcome three members to our Board of Directors:

Wakeland is also happy to welcome three members to our Board of Directors:
- Kay DiFrancesca is a retired Forensic and Clinical Psychologist with four decades' experience in both public service and private practice. She brings to Wakeland an understanding of some of the services dictated by the emotional and psychological needs of people who are struggling with little or no income as well as the needs of the mentally ill.
- James Lawson is President of the Presidio Public Affairs Group. He has a decade of experience in San Diego government and lobbying, with a diverse background in creating public policy, advocating for private development interests and implementing complex strategic initiatives.
- We also want to welcome back Barry J. Shultz, who previously served on Wakeland's board from 2008 to 2015. Barry is a partner with Devaney Pate Morris and Cameron, LLP and his practice focuses on real estate, land use, community development and affordable housing. He currently serves as assistant city attorney for the cities of Murrieta, Encinitas and Del Mar providing legal advice on real estate, land use and public law matters.
